1900s Batiste Cotton Lingerie Dress w/Silk Embroidered Roses & Blouse Overlay
This exquisite 1915 lingerie dress is crafted from feather-light batiste cotton. It is entirely hand-embroidered in broderie Richelieu with French-knot pink rose centers, surrounded by shadow-work foliage in soft green and white, and scattered broderie anglaise “blue dot” sprinkles—all worked in silk floss. The under-bodice is fashioned from fine silk netted tulle, while the cap sleeves are edged in a pink picot trim. Completing the ensemble is a matching embroidered Bertha bodice overlay, adorned in Calais silk bobbinet tulle on dotted Swiss lace. The accompanying guimpe features delicate ¾-length sleeves and a charming little Medici frill framing the back neck. The gloriously full skirt, gathered to perfection, is embellished with sweeping Broderie Richelieu garlands and falls in two graceful tiers with a gentle train at the back. She is finished with an eye-hook closure at the waist and a discreet row of tiny snap buttons down the bodice front—every detail a testament to the early 1900s Edwardian era.
